Biodesign

My research is based in the field of Biodesign which is the practice of using living organisms such as bacteria to create innovative and sustainable materials and products. Based on many problems in-volving in the current production cycle of a garment in terms of sustainability, I am exploring how this research can be extended to the field of fashion design to work with biomaterials to produce fabrics that adapt to the user and are completely biodegradable and eco-friendly. Based on this goal, an interdisciplinary project was formed between the Department of Chemistry and the School of De-sign here at Syracuse University, which made it possible to work on this project and conduct this re-search. Material research and production has taken place in the biomaterial laboratory in the Chemistry Department over the ten months. My main goal was to produce a biomaterial that is eco-friendly, biodegradable, and at the same time has the ability to be converted directly into a garment. I used a bacteria called E.coli for producing protein that is used for creating my biomaterial.
